Metabolic Syndrome- A fix!

A few years ago I found myself gaining weight unexpectedly as I had said previously. I have become pretty active. My fitness was not in question, the ever elusive term (deconditioning) that doctors now like to use did not apply. I joined a medical weight loss program and honestly while I liked the classes they were not very helpful.

My blood pressure was creeping up, cholesterol was creeping up and belly fat was also creeping up.

Metabolic syndrome! So my sister had switched to low carb awhile back when she was trying to have a child. So I joined her with that diet. The weight gain stopped but didn’t reverse. Ok….

So I started talking to a friend of mine who is a research hound and likes to follow the science back to the data. She suggested some books in the Low Carb/ Intermittent Fasting genre. That led me to the IDM folks in Canada, Megan Ramos and Jason Fung. I followed their Facebook group and signed up for their diabetes classes as my bloodwork was showing pre-diabetes.

These classes have been life changing.

I have removed all the sugar out of my diet, and all snacking. My eating is contained into 2 discreet eating windows per day somewhere around 10 am and somewhere around 4:30 pm. I am drinking only herbal tea or water otherwise throughout the day.

I have lost 25 lbs so far, slowly and steadily. When I go on vacation I don’t rapidly gain a bunch of weight so my metabolism doesn’t seem to be wrecked.

My womens health masterclass with Nadia has been the best class ever. She explains how our menstral cycles impact insulin. This is a big deal if you are a woman and are trying to work with weight loss, overall health, diabetes, etc.

I am still learning how all this fits into my autoimmune protocol as I need it still for my mitochondrial disorder. My inflammation numbers are stellar! Recent pouch scope shows healthy and beautiful!!! That’s what we want, right? 😘

Thank you for being on this journey with me! If you want to share your journey too feel free to reach out!! I would love to hear from you!

Ciao!
